The Old Mill, built by Berry students in 1930, is one of the largest in the world at 42 feet in diameter.  During my college days, the wheel was rebuilt, and I had the opportunity to see the wheel operate.  The stones, the rustic iron, and wooden structure, reflecting in the calm pond makes this scene spectacular.  The painting is a recollection of a springtime visit during a hike to the Berry Reservoir.  Its beauty was stunning and memorable.  Berry afforded a student so many wonderful places to go for reflection and to relax.  I hope in some way this painting will remind many of those special times.  We have so much to be thankful for.  It is so fitting that in 1985, staff and students restored the Old Grist Mill once again, selling cornmeal and operating it during special occasions.  I am reminded that although Berry students produced the crops, raised the livestock, and even built buildings, they were reminded of a Heavenly Father to Whom they prayed the engraving upon Ford Dinning Hall:  “Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread.”
